A weekend trip to Kärnten has fulfilled all my expectations of the Austrian countryside – yes, I did see deers frolicking in backyards (only these backyard were actually farms, but still). Mountain tops with snow peaking from behind the clouds; gradients of green as the new spring growth makes the forests lush again; lakes whose water sat perfectly still, a mirror of everything around it; ruins of castles standing proudly on peaks and birdsong – everywhere, everyday – just lovely!

Ps. Spotted another curious creature struggling up the steep slopes. I was quietly comforted watching him, and thought: Yes! I’m not the only one inept at mountains!
